These systems are built using simple yet powerful elements: bodies, gestures, sound, distance, simplicity, and abstraction. Walking Piece draws inspiration from Yvonne Rainer’s The Mind Is a Muscle, a groundbreaking performance structured in chapters. Rainer’s work explored themes like democracy and the everyday, which became foundational for the movement vocabulary in this piece.
