The first train set off in 1839, sparking a mix of wonder and fear. Farmers believed the milk would sour, drivers worried their horses would rear, doctors predicted brain diseases, and sailors feared for their livelihoods.

 

Tower, a performance for commuters, was a month-long installation in a field beside the train tracks between Leuven and Brussels. Constructed from iron, the tower attempted to communicate with passengers speeding by on the trains. Each day, it aspired to rise higher—ultimately reaching a height of 19 meters.
